Complaints against Physiotherapists
The Board, under the Health Practitioners (Professional Standards) Act 1999 is empowered to investigate complaints received about Queensland registered Physiotherapists.
To lodge a complaint about a registered Physiotherapist, it is necessary to provide the Board with written details. The Board may be required under section 51 of the Health Practitioners (Professional Standards) Act 1999 to refer the matter initially to the Health Quality and Complaints Commission (the Commission). The Commission may refer the matter back to the Board for investigation if the Board and the Commission decide that professional standards have been compromised.
Details which the Board will need when a complaint is lodged are as follows:
- the Physiotherapist's name;
- if the Physiotherapist's name is not available, the name of the practice where the incident took place;
- the date of the incident;
- the nature of the complaint;
- the complainant's contact address and phone number.
The Board has a dedicated program (Professional Standards Program) to deal with complaints against health practitioners.
